THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE OF CHELSWORTH OPENS ITS GARDENS FOR THE 42nd YEAR… SUNDAY JUNE 28TH 2009

The beautiful medieval village of Chelsworth in Suffolk, universally recognised as one of England's prettiest villages, will be celebrating its 42nd Open Gardens Day on the last Sunday in June: Sunday 28th June 2009.

Chelsworth is reputed to have been the first ever village in England to open its gardens for charity and will, once again, continue the tradition to raise funds for the repair and refurbishment of the stained glass windows of its splendid medieval church, All Saints.

Anticipated attractions include a plant stall; home-made produce and conserves; bee hives; garden chickens; a tombola; a treasure trail for children; and music from the Hadleigh High School Swing Band. Teas and home made cakes will be served in several of the gardens throughout the day and additional refreshments, including hot meals, will also be available in the garden of the popular village pub, The Peacock Inn.

Once a year, this sleepy village tucked away in a beautiful Suffolk valley, opens its gates, allowing visitors privileged access to over 20 country gardens of all sizes and styles: from tiny cottage gardens, to large grounds of several acres. Regular visitors will be able to enjoy the many developments that have taken place over the years as gardens have developed and matured.

Gardens will be open between 2pm and 6pm, with admission at £5 per adult - with no charge for children.

Chelsworth is located in the beautiful Brett Valley on the B115 Sudbury to Stowmarket road.
