POLICE

In Suffolk, Safer Neighbourhood Teams are made up of Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, Specials and Police Support Volunteers. They work alongside staff from other organisations, including district and borough councils to provide an even better service to local people across the county.

The team has a remit to solve problems identified by local people from our area – which could range from crime and anti-social behaviour to noise and litter.

The Police Officer with responsibility for Chelsworth is PC 1142 Enise Howe, and our Police Community Support Officer is PCSO 3244 Alex Vinter.

The Police and the Safer neighbourhood teams can be contacted on the central switchboard number - 01473 613 500. Minicom users should dial 01473 611 160.

All calls will be answered as quickly as possible but, at times of peak demand, you may be placed in a queue.

If your call is urgent, hang up and dial 999.

In an emergency dial 999. You should dial 999 when life is threatened or people are injured, or of there is a crime in progress or an immediate police response is necessary. It is better to be safe than sorry. IF IN DOUBT DIAL 999

They are based at:

Police Station
Acton Lane
Sudbury
Suffolk CO10 1QN

Opening times are:
Monday to Weds - 8am - 6pm
Thurs and Friday - 8am - 8pm
Sat - 9am - 1pm

From Bury St. Edmunds direction
From Stowmarket
From North London or Sudbury
From Hadleigh, Suffolk
From Colchester or A12
From East London or A12 alternate route.

A

If you are coming from the Bury St Edmunds direction, follow the A134 towards Sudbury and turn left onto the A1141 to Lavenham. In Lavenham, go to the bottom of the High Street and turn left by The Old Swan Hotel, signposted Hadleigh. Keep following signs to Hadleigh and follow the road through Brent Eleigh and on to Monks Eleigh: as you leave the village, take the left fork, signposted Stowmarket and Chelsworth. You will enter Chelsworth after a few hundred yards.

B

If you are coming from Stowmarket, take the B1115 to Hadleigh and Lavenham. Drive through Bildeston and as you leave the village, turn right, signposted Lavenham and Chelsworth. You will arrive in Chelsworth after about a half of a mile.

C

From north London or the M25, take the M11, turning off at the exit for Stansted and Bishops Stortford and follow the A120 initially in the direction of Colchester. From the Braintree bypass, take the A131 to Sudbury - do not go to Colchester!.

In Sudburythere is a one-way system - follow the signs to A134 Colchester. Watch out first of all for the turning to Bury St Edmunds (also the A134 but wrong direction). In the next half mile you will pass through a set of lights at a pedestrian crossing and at the following set of traffic lights, with a buff coloured building on the right, turn left to Lavenham and Waldingfield. After about 2 miles, turn right onto the B1115 to Stowmarket, Bildeston etc. You will go through Little Waldingfield. Stay with the main road and after about 2 miles watch out for a sharp left hand bend leading over a single-track bridge. At the T-junction on the other side, turn right to Monks Eleigh, go straight through and fork left as you leave the village towards Stowmarket, Chelsworth etc.

D

From Hadleigh follow signs to A1141 Stowmarket and Lavenham. Depending on exactly where you are coming from, this will either mean turning right from the by-pass or left onto the bypass and immediately right. Go straight on for about 5 miles and on the outskirts of Bildeston turn left onto the B1115, which is signed to Chelsworth, Sudbury and Lavenham. Drive for about a half of a mile into Chelsworth.

E

If coming from the A12 and Colchester, follow signs for Colchester central and then A134 Sudbury. Stay on this road for about 11 miles through Great Horkesley, Leavenheath and Newton. Shortly after leaving Newton, turn right towards Waldingfield and Lavenham. In 1 mile, turn right at T-junction, (opposite White Horse pub) still towards Lavenham. After another mile, turn right onto the B1115 to Stowmarket, Bildeston etc. You will go through Little Waldingfield. Stay with the main road and watch out for a sharp left hand bend leading over a single-track bridge. At the T-junction on the other side, turn right to Monks Eleigh, go straight through and fork left as you leave the village towards Stowmarket, Chelsworth etc.

F

Alternative route from A12: Turn left off the A12 onto the B1070 signposted to Hadleigh. Turn right at the T-junction and follow this road through Holton St. Mary, Raydon and Layham. On entering Hadleigh, drive straight through the town, following signs for Stowmarket and Lavenham. From Hadleigh follow the directions above(D)
