VILLAGE ORGANISATIONS AND LOCAL DEMOCRACY

Chelsworth is part of three local government structures:  its Parish Meeting (instead of a Parish Council), the District Council, and the County Council.

There are a number of trusts and charitable organisations that manage various aspects of village life:  Open Gardens Day;  The Parocial Church Council;  The Village Hall Trust;  the Playing Field Trust; Chelsworth Woodland;  the Tree Warden;  and the Parochial Charity.

The Parish Meeting

The Village manages its affairs through a Parish Meeting - a meeting of all of the Electors living in the Parish.  All matters of any significance concerning the village are discussed and decided upon (if necessary by a vote) at a Parish Meeting;  the only real power that the village delegates to its officials is the power to organise and manage a meeting, and to call for a vote if necessary.

There are two Parish Meetings each year (although others could be called to deal with significant matters) and they are generally in April and November.

The Parish Officials are the Chairman, the Treasurer and the Secretary, whose position is confirmed each year by the Parish Meeting.  They are currently:

Chairman:  Mr. John Ramsay 01449 741131 john.ramsay@chelsworth.co.uk
Treasurer:  Mrs Janet Gooding
Secretary:  Mrs Linda Kievenaar

Minutes are kept of all Parish Meetings, and these are available at the links below, as are the Annual Returns submitted by the Parish Meeting. Minutes are in MS Word format and Returns are in Adobe PDF format.
